Sugar Beat Coffee Shop

This town sure has magnetism which is what drew Brad & Barbara Hails from the coast 2½ years ago to set up their newest venture, Sugar Beat Coffee Shop. It's a hype of activity in that kitchen from the early morning - baking breads, savoury tarts, muffins and cakes - where customers line up en-route to work for fresh ground Vittoria coffee and a tasty morsel to go, or to those lucky enough to have a relaxed day ahead perusing the breakfast specials or the enticing menu.

Breakfast seems to pass and morning tea is on it's way. A stream of deserving ladies fresh from the tennis court engage the cake cabinet like kids at a tropical fish tank - a showcase of tastes, textures and colours engulf the senses and are consumed with coffee or tea served in classical fine china.

In the kitchen, soup & sauces simmer on the stove, dressings are blended and herbs chopped with conversation and aromas flowing from the kitchen to the dining area and back to the coffee barista.

Fresh juices are extracted, smoothies blended and overhead sounds of world music make all this seem effortless and lunch is yet to come. Welcome to the 2007 Café of the Year.
